Can Citizens Truly Influence the Air They Breathe?
This question was at the heart of the DivAirCity Final Event, held in Valencia on 20 and 21 May, where participants from more than 20 countries and five continents came together to explore how diversity, inclusion, and technology can shape healthier and more sustainable cities.
Over two days, the event featured high-level speeches, panel discussions, and the opening of the DivAirCity exhibition, a showcase of the project’s tools, outcomes, and shared vision for inclusive urban innovation. Among the most anticipated highlights was the presentation of the latest version of the DivAirCity decentralized application (dApp), a digital platform designed to empower citizens to contribute to better air quality through everyday green behaviors.
Now live in Castellón, Aarhus, Potsdam, Bucharest, and Orvieto, the dApp engages users to act, measure, and collaborate in real-time. By making individual actions visible and impactful, it bridges the gap between data, local policy, and citizen engagement, turning sustainability from a concept into a shared practice.
Blockchain Intelligence has been an active member of the DivAirCity consortium, contributing to the development of the dApp throughout the past four years. The team has worked closely with participating cities, ensuring that the technology was co-created with citizens and designed to reflect their needs, behaviors, and aspirations. This collaborative approach has been fundamental to delivering a tool that empowers communities while supporting municipal sustainability goals.
While the Final Event offered a space to reflect on the journey so far, it also served as a launchpad for the next phase of engagement and implementation. The DivAirCity community remains active, with cities and partners working to expand the reach and impact of its tools, and to promote a model of urban transformation that is as participatory as it is sustainable.
