How can those most affected by innovation and research be truly involved in shaping them? And what role can technology, and specifically blockchain, play in building more inclusive societies?
These were the key questions explored in the podcast “Inclusive Cities and Finance through Stakeholder Involvement”, hosted by Dr. Claudia Werker from Delft University of Technology, on September 3, 2025.
Dr. Almudena de la Mata, CEO of BlockchAIn Intelligence, joined the discussion to share insights from the DivAirCity project, an EU-funded initiative that places diversity and inclusion at the heart of urban innovation. The project aims to rethink cities by reducing air pollution, fostering co-creation with citizens, and applying advanced technologies such as blockchain to promote healthier and more inclusive environments.
During the conversation, Almudena highlighted how stakeholder involvement is essential for building inclusive cities and financial systems. She explained practical methods to bring into the process those who are usually affected by innovation outcomes but lack influence over them. Examples included enabling women’s access to financial services and introducing blockchain-based reward mechanisms that encourage citizens to make choices aligned with sustainability and inclusivity.
By linking stakeholder engagement with concrete solutions, the podcast underlined the importance of bridging research, innovation, and real-world participation — an approach at the core of BlockchAIn Intelligence’s mission.
